Sowing:

As celery seeds are tiny, they can be gently tapped onto compressed potting mix but do not cover them.

Optimal sowing occurs from mid-March to early April.

Harvesting:

Celery can be harvested either whole or as individual stalks can be taken at varying intervals will prolong production.

Celery seeds need light to germinate.

Celery can be a difficult crop so it needs regular attention.

Celery prefers a rich soil with a pH of between 5.8 – 6.8 and prefers a cooler climate to grow.

Celery needs be to kept moist at all times while growing. A dry soil can turn the flavour bitter.

Celery requires soil that is rich in organic matter.

Celery has shallow roots so its important to keep an eye on weeds and remove them frequently.

Biggest pests are slugs/snails and the celery leaf miner fly.

Celery is high in water content and low in sodium and is slow and steady on your blood sugars. It is rich in vitamins A, K and C.

Fun Fact:

March is National Celery Month  and celery was previously used in medicine to assist with issues such as toothache, insomnia and anxiety.
