Sowing:
Seeds should be sown approximately 2cm deep with 1-2 seed per module cell.
Sowing generally occurs between January – March for indoor growing or around April - July for outdoor planting.
Harvesting:
Baby leaves can be harvested around the 30 day mark or if bigger heads are desired they will be ready between 45-75 days. Pak Choi can be cut at soil level or individual leaves can simply be taken as required.
Information:
Pak Choi prefers rich moist soil and does not like acidic conditions.
Pak Choi needs lots of moisture and soil should not be allowed to dry out.
Pak Choi seeds generally germinate between 5-8 days.
Pak Choi are a cool season crop and tend to bolt in hot weather so make sure your crop has sufficient shade. Pak Choi should not have more than 8 hours of sun per day.
Pak Choi should be planted in rows approximately 20-25cm apart.
Nutritional Information:
Pak Choi is a very low calorie food and contains high levels of Vitamins C and K. It is also high in manganese which promotes bone health and assists blood sugar regulation. Manganese is also good for thyroid health.
Fun Fact:
Pak Choi, also known as Bok Choy originated in China and is sometimes referred to as a “soup spoon” due to the shape its leaves take.
