Information:
Radishes prefer a moist and fertile soil with a Ph of between 5.8 and 6.8 although radishes can be grown successfully in most soil types.
One radish seed will yield one radish so if you are after a high quantity, you will need to plant lots of seeds.
Radishes prefer full sun with a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight each day but preferably more as too much shade will trigger growth of the leaves and not the roots.
The best time to sow radishes in around March/April time when the temperature rises but they can be sewn right through the summer right up until around August/September while the weather remains warm.
Be cautious not to leave the radish in the ground for too long or this will cause the radish to turn woody and taste bitter.
The main pests are slugs, birds and woodlice and even mice.
Nutritional Information:
Radishes are considered a superfood and are rich in antioxidants as well as potassium , calcium and vitamin C. They are nutritionally best when eaten raw but are also delicious pickled!
Fun Fact:
Radishes are in fact linked to wasabi and they originated in China.
